Chef-Job Summary:
The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving high-quality meals to residents of a care home. This role requires a strong understanding of dietary needs, particularly for seniors, and the ability to create nutritious and appealing meals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Menu Planning:
- Develop and implement daily and weekly menus that meet the dietary needs of residents.
- Consider factors such as allergies, intolerances, and medical conditions.
- Ensure menus are balanced, nutritious, and appealing.
- Food Preparation:
- Prepare and cook meals in accordance with menus and recipes.
- Adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Ensure food is cooked to the appropriate temperature.
- Dietary Accommodations:
- Accommodate special dietary needs, such as pureed diets, modified textures, or restricted diets.
- Consult with dietitians or healthcare professionals as needed.
- Staff Supervision:
- Oversee the work of kitchen staff, including cooks, dishwashers, and food service assistants.
- Train and develop kitchen staff.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure the quality and presentation of meals.
- Monitor food waste and implement measures to reduce it.
- Inventory Management:
- Manage food inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of food items.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience as a chef or cook, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Strong understanding of dietary needs, particularly for seniors.
- Ability to create nutritious and appealing meals.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
